Compatibility & control

The ORA SMX11 is a standalone light controlled by a standard marine on/off switch (user-supplied). It does not connect to any Lumishore command center, hub, or MFD. This makes it the simplest Lumishore light to install — wire it like any 12 V DC accessory and switch it from your helm or a dedicated panel switch.

Frequently asked questions

Can I control the SMX11 from my Garmin chartplotter?
No. The ORA SMX11 is a simple on/off light with no network or bus connection. It is controlled only by a standard on/off switch. If MFD control is a priority, look at the Lumishore EOS or LUX series lights that work with the EOS-LUX Command Center.

Is the SMX11 suitable for above-waterline mounting?
Yes. The SMX11 is IP68-rated and includes Active Thermal Rollback (ATRB) to protect the LED from overheating in air. It can be mounted above the waterline for accent or dock lighting, though best underwater performance is achieved 100–300 mm below the waterline.

Does the SMX11 work on 24 V systems?
No. The SMX11 is a 12 V DC-only light (10–14 V operating range). Do not connect it to a 24 V supply — it will damage the fixture and void the warranty.

What sealant should I use?
Lumishore specifies 3M 4200 marine sealant for all mounting surfaces and the cable hole. Do not substitute with silicone or other compounds — use 4200 specifically as called out in installation manual 45-0238-Rev-A.

What's the warranty on the Lumishore ORA SMX11?

Is the SMX11 a Garmin product now?
Yes. Garmin acquired Lumishore in October 2024. The SMX11 is now sold under Garmin MPN 010-04351-00 (Blue). The hardware and design remain unchanged — it is the same Lumishore ORA SMX11, now backed by Garmin.

How many SMX11 lights can I run on one circuit?
Each SMX11 draws up to 1.2 A at 12 V. Lumishore recommends a 2 A fuse per light. Wire each light on its own fused circuit or calculate total current draw for any shared run per ABYC guidelines, accounting for wire length and gauge.
